Special Meeting on Monday, September 19th

The Philadelphia Art Commission will host a special meeting for the Philadelphia Peace Plaza on Monday, September 19, at 9:30 a.m. This public meeting will be held virtually on Zoom. The link for the meeting is here.

The meeting will include a presentation of the proposed Philadelphia Peace Plaza (located at 805 S. Front Street) and will allow time for public comment.

Please note:

• The Art Commission will not vote on the proposal at the September 19th meeting.
• The Art Commission will deliberate and vote on the proposal at its regular meeting on October 12. No further public comment will be accepted at the October 12 meeting.

The Commission welcomes public comment on the proposed Philadelphia Peace Plaza. Comments can be submitted in writing ahead of the meeting, or presented at the meeting. You do not need to pre-register in order to speak at the meeting, but pre-registration guarantees a spot in line.

How to Comment at the September 19th Meeting

The Art Commission dedicates part of the agenda to hearing from the public. Commission staff asks that participants limit redundant comments. This will help make sure all parties are heard.

During the public comment part of the agenda, a moderator will call on pre-registered commenters first. Pre-registering to comment is not required, but it does reserve a spot early in the list of speakers. The moderator will call on meeting attendees after that list is exhausted. Meeting attendees who did not pre-register may speak when the moderator calls their name. 

Each speaker has two (2) minutes for comment.

The public can also submit comments in writing before the meeting. Comments submitted in advance should not be read during the live meeting. Commissioners will consider written comment and spoken comment equally. Written comments will be incorporated into the official meeting minutes.

Will commissioners vote on the Peace Plaza at this meeting?

No. This meeting is only to hear a presentation about the proposed Philadelphia Peace Plaza and to hear public comment on the proposal. 

When will commissioners vote on the Peace Plaza?

Commissioners will vote on the Philadelphia Peace Plaza proposal at the regularly scheduled Art Commission meeting on October 12th. They will not hear public comment at the October meeting. The agenda for that meeting will be available here closer to the meeting date.

I can’t attend but want to comment, how do I do that?

You can submit written comment on this form or by emailing artcommission@phila.gov. Please submit your comments before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14 so that Commissioners have time to consider the comments. These comments are reviewed equally with comments made at the meeting. 

Will this meeting recording be available afterwards? 

Yes. The meeting recording and minutes from the meeting will be available on the Art Commission website.

Where can I learn more about the Philadelphia Peace Plaza?

The Philadelphia Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy (OACCE) held a town hall meeting in February 2022. The town hall meeting included a presentation about the proposed Philadelphia Peace Plaza as well as a time for public comment and questions and answers. 議題の一部であるパブリックコメントの時間には、司会者がまず事前登録者に声をかけます。コメントするための事前登録は必須ではありませんが、発言者リストの中で早めに発言する機会を確保することができます。司会者は、そのリストの全登録者の発言が終わった後に、ミーティングの参加者に意見を呼びかけます。事前登録をしていない会合の出席者は、司会者が名前を呼んだら発言することができます。
