June is jam-packed with events!
This month is a great time to connect with the outdoors at a Parks & Rec site. Our staff and partners are hosting an array of activities for those of all ages and abilities. This month you can:
- Learn about the exciting plans for FDR Park.
- Star gaze at Lemon Hill in East Fairmount Park.
- Create poetry inspired by nature (teen program).
- Experience a Revival Walk in Tacony Creek Park.
- Practice yoga in Overington Park (children and adult classes).
- Create a Father’s Day craft (children’s program).
- Learn to fish at Frankford Boat Launch (youth and adults).
- Line dance to Hip Hop and Soul along the Delaware River.
- Enjoy a bonfire at Pennypack Environmental Center.

Learn about the exciting changes coming to FDR Park over the next several years as part of the FDR Park Plan. Join Fairmount Park Conservancy’s Executive Director,Maura McCarthy for an approximately 2 hour tour with many stops. You’ll explore FDR Park Plan’s two main zones the Ecological Core and Urban Edge and hear how these areas will balance nature, water, and human activity into one unified, climate resilient system.

Park After Dark: Stargazing at Lemon Hill
This recurring event takes place on the first Tuesday of June, July, and August.

Lemon Hill, East Fairmount Park
Hosted by Fairmount Park Conservancy
Join stargazers of all ages at the Lemon Hill Plateau to learn about the astronomical wonders of the night sky. After sunset, we’ll gaze at the planets and the quarter moon- the best phase for seeing it’s textured surface!
Novice and experienced astronomers alike will be given insights and tips by experienced instructor Buddy Muhler. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own telescopes or high powered binoculars. Limited telescopes available to view from with sanitation protocol in place.

Nature Poetry for Teens

Teens can join Krista for a walk through the sanctuary to be inspired by the natural beauty and create poetry. Poetry will be both free verse, or haiku. Ages 12-17 welcome, drop off program.

Revival Walk in Tacony Creek Park: Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies
This recurring event takes place on the second Saturday of the month, June through October.

Tacony Creek Park – Tabor Rd and Olney Ave Philadelphia, 19120
Event hosted by Tookany/Tacony-Frankford (TTF) Watershed Partnership
Journey through Tacony Creek Park in the Olney neighborhood to honor the sun, wind, trees, birds and nature. Storyteller Mama Carla will share stories illuminating our place in community with one another and with our natural environment. Additional artists will bring movement and music to add breadth and depth to the holistic engagement. Participants will also assist in removing trash along the way as an act of reciprocity to nature.

Yoga in Overington Park
This recurring event takes place on Wednesdays in June.

Get your zen on with some local yoga at Overington Park. Registration is not required, but encouraged. The children’s and adult classes take place back to back. Bring your own mat, some available if needed. Classes are free, but donations are welcome.

Learn to Fish at the Frankford Boat Launch

Learn how to fish for free! Rods, tackle, bait and basic instruction will be provided. First come, first served. We have rods to loan out and worms for bait. You are welcome to bring your own rod.
No fishing license necessary; state license requirements are waived for these events. Great for youth & adults who are new or intermediate anglers. Registration encouraged but not required.

This recurring event takes place every Monday from May 16 to June 27, 2022.
