Winter is waning, and that means its time for a thorough Spring cleaning! Though, at Parks & Rec, we don’t mean cleaning your house. Throughout April there are events and activities focused on cleaning up and improving our green spaces. Park cleanups are a great way to see new parks and make a difference! You can volunteer to help clear litter, remove invasive plants, and plant trees at your favorite parks.

We want to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day each day this month as we take care of our natural lands. Check out Parks and Rec’s event calendar for all the cleanups planned. Here are some upcoming highlights offered by our staff and partners:

1. Weekly Wednesday Clean Up

When: Each Wednesday (April 6, 13, 20, 27) — 10 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Where: Tacony Creek Park
Event partner: TTF Watershed

Join your neighbors and Tacony Creek Park Keepers each Wednesday to maintain this beautiful public park. Tools and supplies are provided at the park. Check the event Facebook page for RSVP information and more.

2. Register for Love Your Park Week

When: Registration begins April 13, 2022
Where: Assorted parks across the city

Love Your Park week takes place May 7 to 15, 2022. This annual celebration of Philly parks features volunteer opportunities and fun events in parks across the city. Read more about the event and register on or after April 13.

3. Earth Week Tree Planting

When: April 19, 2022 — 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Where: Pennypack Environmental Center

Join other community members in planting trees and removing invasive plants in Pennypack Park. Read more about this event.

4. Don’t Be a Drip: Online Rain Barrel Workshop

When: April 21, 2022 — 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Where: Online – Register through this link for access.

5. Earth Day Tree Planting and Clean Up

When: April 22, 2022 — 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Where: Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Center

Help repopulate the park with native trees and shrubs. Throughout the process you’ll help get rid of litter, make way for new plant life, and clear out invasive species. For information on how to register, check the event Facebook page.

6. Earth Day Yoga & Meditation

When: April 22, 2022 — 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.
Where: FDR Community Clubhouse
Event partner: Friends of FDR Park

Join yoga & mindfulness instructor, Cole Hooley for this special Earth Day offering of All Levels Vinyasa Yoga in our beautiful park! Bring your own mat and prepare to connect with nature on Earth Day. Learn more about the event on the Friends of FDR Park website.

7. Penn Treaty Park Care and Cleanup

When: April 23, 2022 — 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Where: Penn Treaty Park

8. Cobbs Creek Park Cleanup at Mt. Moriah
