PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Department of Public Health today reported an additional 15,978 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Philadelphia since last reported on Monday, June 28. This brings the total number of fully vaccinated Philadelphians to at least 719,651, and the number of Philadelphians with at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine to at least 893,848. Currently, 58 percent of Philadelphia adults are fully vaccinated, and 72 percent of Philadelphia adults have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
The Department of Public Health reports 61 patients with COVID-19 are currently being treated in Philadelphia hospitals, with a total of 14 on ventilators.
In the last two weeks, one percent of COVID-19 tests in Philadelphia have come back positive. Thus far during the pandemic, 3,740 Philadelphians have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and 145,266 3,740 have succumbed to the virus. Philadelphia is averaging 25 new cases of COVID-19 per day over the last two weeks.
Health Department Reminds Philadelphians About Mask Guidelines: Earlier this month, the City and state dropped the mandates that said people needed to wear masks in most places to protect themselves from COVID-19. In Philadelphia, masks are still required to be worn in the following settings by everyone:
- Healthcare institutions including temporary community healthcare events such as vaccine clinics and blood drives.
- Congregate facilities such as prisons, shelters, and adult day programs.
- Public transportation including planes, trains, buses, taxis, and rideshare vehicles.
- All indoor childcare settings including schools, camps, and early childhood education and childcare centers.
Unvaccinated people are strongly recommended to wear masks whenever they are around other people indoors. This is especially important now that the Delta variant is coming to Philadelphia. The Delta variant is more easily transmitted between people and has prompted some countries and cities to maintain or reintroduce safety measures, like mask requirements. Fully vaccinated people are protected against the Delta variant, so the Health Department strongly encourages everyone who has not already been vaccinated to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Recently, Acting Health Commissioner Dr. Cheryl Bettigole penned an Open Letter to Philadelphians on the dangers of the Delta variant. The Health Department has also published a blog on what unvaccinated children should do about wearing masks.
