Boathouse Row to Honor FEMA with Light Display: Tonight, Thursday, May 20, Boathouse Row and several buildings downtown will be lit blue and green. Additionally, the PECO Crown Lights will display a message of gratitude. The lights are to honor and thank FEMA, Department of Defense, Pennsylvania Air National Guard, Red Cross, Team Rubicon, Civil Air Patrol, and Indian Americans for COVID-19 Relief volunteers, and personnel who have been serving the City in mass vaccination sites. “Look up” tonight to join the City to publicly acknowledge all those members who have put their lives on hold at home to come and provide care and fight COVID-19 here in Philadelphia. The City also thanks the Pennsylvania Convention Center who at Center City Vaccination Center’s peak staffing housed nearly 400 military service members, federal employees, City staff, and volunteers. As well as Esperanza who opened its doors in one of the City’s most under-vaccinated communities, greatly impacting vaccination efforts in North Philadelphia.
Together, both federally supported CVCs account for nearly 25 percent of all vaccinations given in Philadelphia. To date, the Center City Vaccination Center has delivered more than 320,000 vaccinations while the Esperanza CVC has delivered more than 20,000 vaccinations. The City of Philadelphia has hosted more than 500 uniformed service members, from the US Army, US Navy, US Marine Corps, Pennsylvania National Guard, and US Public Health Service since the start of the FEMA-supported vaccination mission in early March. Many of the FEMA staff supporting Philadelphia’s federally supported CVCs are Philadelphians themselves and are based out of FEMA Region 3’s office here in the City. Both the Center City Vaccination Center and the Esperanza Community Vaccination Center will close on May 25, 2021. Following May 25, the City of Philadelphia will continue to run its many other vaccination clinics including taking over the location at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
