Many Philadelphians are struggling in the wake of the murder trial of Derek Chauvin, the police officer accused of killing George Floyd. This trial has resurrected the hurt, pain, and anger that many felt last summer with Floyd’s senseless murder. While we hope that the verdict has provided some relief, a just verdict does not equal justice.
We want every resident in Philadelphia who feels outraged, frustrated, or retraumatized by this trial, or who is working through how to feel about its outcome to know: you are not alone, and you do not have to deal with this by yourself.
We are creating safe spaces for people to talk, vent, and process their emotions in communion with other residents. To do this, the City will be hosting virtual Community Healing Circles on Zoom.
These Community Healing Circles are intended to help residents share their feelings and find community and support from neighbors.
And please remember that if you are in crisis, we strongly urge you to call the Philadelphia Crisis Line at 215-685-6440. This hotline operates 24/7 and has behavioral health specialists ready to respond to those in need of immediate help.
