Help Philly spruce up for spring! After a year’s hiatus due to the pandemic, the annual Philly Spring Cleanup will return on Saturday, April 10 with new COVID-19 protocols. The Department of Streets city-wide cleaning event will take place at hundreds of locations across Philadelphia.
Beautification projects will take place across the city. Activities include:
- Picking up trash.
- Sweeping sidewalks.
- Removing graffiti.
- Painting benches.
- Planting bulbs.
New COVID-19 protocols for all sites include:
- Capping registration at 20 volunteers.
- Requiring a designated and trained COVID-19 prevention coordinator.
- Ensuring participants maintain six feet of social distance from non-household members at all times.
- Requiring face masks.
Why should you volunteer? We’ve seen higher rates of litter and dumping in our public spaces since the pandemic reached Philadelphia, and the results are alarming. By teaming up with residents like you in a COVID-conscious effort, we hope to create a cleaner and more beautiful city.

Over the course of a decade, volunteers and City staff have captured and removed more than 11 million pounds of trash and 600,000 pounds of recycling from neighborhoods during Philly Spring Cleanup events. The city-wide effort has attracted more than 150,000 volunteers since 2008. Join us this year to keep the momentum going!
