This spring, residents will be able to take a walk, run, or ride on a new and improved Martin Luther King Trail! Parks & Rec is improving the four-mile trail in West Fairmount Park to make it safer and more welcoming for trail users.
Built over 50 years ago, the trail will be modernized to make it wider and more accessible to everyone. Upgrades include:
- New signage and on-trail pavement markings.
- Improved crosswalks and ADA accessible ramps.
- Redesigns and repaving to avoid existing tree roots.
- Clearing of dead and damaged trees.
- Modern drainage systems.
The trail is closed during construction. Construction began in January 2021 and is expected to be finished by spring. So outdoor exercisers, get ready to enjoy the warmer weather on the new Martin Luther King Trail!
