Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, visiting the polls will look a little bit different this year. Here’s what to expect when planning for Election Day.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Please note: The Philadelphia citywide curfew begins tonight, June 2 at 8:30 p.m. to allow residents time to vote and return home before curfew.

Before you leave your house

Check your voter registration status

  • Confirm that you are able to vote in the Pennsylvania Primary Election.

Find your polling place

  • Due to social distancing guidelines, your polling place may be different this election. Make sure you double check where your polling place is this year, even if you’ve gone to the same polling place for years.

Bring a mask or face covering.

  • Masks will be strongly encouraged and voters who don’t have a mask will be provided with one.

Make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to vote.

  • Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you are in line by 8 p.m. you must be allowed to vote.

Make a travel plan.

  • To help ensure social distancing guidelines, make a plan to get to the polls safely. If you need to take public transportation, consider riding during non-peak hours, if possible. You can also look into options like Indego, the City’s bike share program.

At the Polls

While at the polling place, please follow social distancing guidelines. Make sure you stay six feet away from everyone at all times. Please wear a face covering or mask as well.

Hand sanitizer will be available and every voter will be provided a plastic glove to prevent shared transmission by the pens and the touch screens. Learn how to use Philadelphia’s voting machines.

If you have any issues at the polls (such as questions about poll locations or registration status), please contact the City Commissioners’ Voter Hotline: (215) 686-1590.

Voting by mail

If you received a mail-in or absentee ballot this year, the Philadelphia City Commissioner’s Office must receive your voted ballot by June 9 at 5 p.m. The ballot must be postmarked no later than June 2, 2020. The deadline to drop-off absentee or mail-in ballots remains 8 p.m. on June 2, 2020. You can also drop off your voted ballot at one of the Election Day Council drop off locations.
