Philadelphia homeowners who enroll in the Homestead Exemption can reduce their property tax bill by up to $629 starting in 2020. Applying is very easy. While there are instances when your property may not qualify, the requirements for getting Homestead are easy. You must:

  • Own the property
  • Live in the property as your primary residence

Even better, once approved for Homestead, you don’t ever have to reapply – unless you buy a different home, or the name changes on the deed while you are living there.

How do you find out if you already have Homestead? The easiest way is to enter your address in the City’s property lookup website: https://property.phila.gov/

Once you enter your address, select the search icon. A map showing your property appears on the right. Under the map, find the words HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION. If you’re signed up, the word “Yes” appears directly below.

Another easy option is to call the Homestead hotline: (215) 686-9200. There is more information about this program, and how to apply on our website.
