City Council recently enabled legislation for nine Complete Street projects. This is the highest number of bills passed out of Council for safety improvements on record. These projects increase safety for people who walk, bicycle, take transit, and drive.
The projects include plans for:
- Redesigning roadways to reduce speeding.
- Establishing shorter and safer roadway crossings for pedestrians.
- Changing vehicle and parking lanes to become protected bike lanes.
The projects enabled by the legislation are on this map and are as follows:
- Market JFK Vision Zero Safety Project, 15th – 20th Streets
- Germantown Avenue Flood Relief and Safety Project, Master Street – 2nd Street
- 2nd Street Protected Bicycle Lane, Wood Street – Race Street
- 11th Street Repaving & Safety Project, Catharine Street – Webster Street
- Columbus Boulevard, Tasker Street – Swanson Street
- 10th Street, Spring Garden Street – Callowhill Street
- 13th Street, Spring Garden Street – Buttonwood Street
- Richmond Street, Berkshire Street – Lewis Street
- South Street, 21st – 27th Streets
These nine projects are the result of years of outreach and engagement with many different communities. This includes meeting with 14 community groups, and hosting seven public project open houses.
The projects will connect people traveling in neighborhoods, commercial corridors, trails, and on-road bikeways. Click here to see the map.
Each bicycle lane link moves the City closer to its goal of a high-quality bike network. The plan is to have 20 miles of protected bicycle lanes by the end of the 2020 construction season.
