Philly Reading Coaches (PRC), part of Philadelphia’s Out of School Time Initiative, helps children grow more comfortable with reading by pairing them with volunteers for fun, one-on-one reading sessions once a week. Each child also receives 25 free books to take home and continue discovering the joys of reading.
Volunteers and students alike are enjoying the program:
Excited to be a volunteer Philly Reading Coach! This year I’ll be reading one-on-one with a K-3 student each week for an hour. They might choose to read, I’ll read or we’ll read together. The goal is to meet every week consistently and get them feeling positive about reading! 📚 pic.twitter.com/ZERpBHRGqU
