Reasons to join We Walk PHL
Here are the top five reasons to join a We Walk PHL group, according to current members:
1. Staying physically active
A body in motion tends to stay in motion! We Walk members join to:
- start new exercise routines
- maintain good health habits
- restore their mobility
- lose weight
- improve their breathing capacity, energy level, flexibility, and more
2. …at your own pace
Everyone here walks at their own pace, so there’s no competition, no pressure. Some groups have three distinct sub-groups: fast, intermediate, and slow. This gives people that can’t walk fast a chance to join in without feeling intimidated.
3. Making new friends
Exercise is the most obvious benefit of participating in We Walk. But when we asked current members about the best part of the program, the answer was unanimous: new friends.
4. Discovering (or rediscovering) new places
The walks give members chances to explore new sections of the city that they may not have seen before. Many members love finding new parts of the city and new things to do.
5. Helping others
Each group has several leaders. These leaders are trained to guide participants of all ability levels through warm-ups, cool-downs, and the walk itself. All leaders share a commitment to supporting folks in achieving their fitness goals.
Bonus! Thanks to the partners behind the program, We Walk participants have been rewarded with items like jump ropes, pedometers, t-shirts, and more for working towards their fitness goals.
We Walk PHL is made possible thanks to a partnership among Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy, and Philly Powered.
