Did you know you can learn how to make maple syrup and candy from the sap of maple trees right here in Philadelphia? Starch that has been stored in the roots and trunks of maple trees all winter turns into sugar and mixes with the sap. In late winter, the tree is tapped, the sap is boiled, and the liquid is converted to syrup and candy.

Now that maple sugar season has begun, our environmental centers and partner organizations are celebrating with Maple Sugar Days. At Maple Sugar Day, participants will learn every step in the maple sugaring process, from tapping the tree to creating the final maple product. There will also be crafts, games, storytelling, and delicious snacks. All ages are welcome!
