Free Fun Community Safety Fair to Highlight National Preparedness Month

To celebrate National Emergency Management Month and National Preparedness Month, OEM’s Community Engagement staff will host an Emergency Preparedness Resource Fair on Saturday, August 23, from 10am to 2pm at Cruz Recreation Center, 1431 North 6th Street.

The fair looks to empower Philadelphia residents with the tools and knowledge to become safer and more resilient. Building relationships with individuals and communities while connecting them with city public safety before an emergency strengthens neighborhoods.

The Office of Emergency Management, City departments, and non-profit partners from the Philadelphia Fire Department, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and the United Way, in addition to over a dozen other agencies will provide live demonstrations, exhibits, meet and great tables, and take-home resources along with food, fun, and entertainment.

Activities that will be happening throughout the day:

  • Stop the Bleed Training. Learn life-saving skills for emergencies involving severe bleeding.
  • Hands-On Training. Participate in interactive workshops that teach essential safety techniques.
  • Emergency Go Bag Building. Find what to include in your emergency kit to stay safe during disasters.
  • Touch-a-truck. The Philadelphia Fire Department will have a fire engine and ambulance on site for kids to learn and explore – and for photo ops!
  • Fun & Games. Engage in interactive activities designed for families and residents of all ages while a DJ provides the soundtrack. Raffles will be sponsored by the Philadelphia Eagles. Bring a bathing suit! Philadelphia Parks & Recreation will have the pool open during the event.
  • Free food & refreshments including Wawa pretzels and Boomer’s Kitchen food truck.
