What we do
The Office of Property Assessment (OPA) determines what every piece of property within Philadelphia is worth. The assessed dollar value is used to calculate the property’s real estate tax due. Real estate tax (also known as property tax) provides a large part of our City’s public school funding.
We also handle abatement and exemption programs that may reduce a property’s real estate tax bill. If a property owner disagrees with an assessment or believes that an abatement or exemption has not been properly applied, the City offers options for requesting a review or filing an appeal.
If you have questions about your assessment, you can contact the OPA hotline at (215) 686-9200.
If you have questions about appeals, exemptions, abatements, and related issues, you can contact OPA by using our online form or by calling (215) 686-4334. You can also visit in person, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
