Project Status: Design
This project will improve safety and mobility for everyone traveling on Swanson Street, whether they walk, bike, or drive. Swanson Street, from Oregon Avenue to Christopher Columbus Boulevard, is an important corridor for communities in South Philly to access retail and employment opportunities. Currently, Swanson Street’s unclear pavement markings, aging infrastructure, and inconsistent layout can be confusing for drivers and uncomfortable for people walking or biking.
Reconstructing Swanson Street will benefit all roadway users, no matter how they choose to travel. This new design includes:
- New curbs and improved drainage systems
- New wider sidewalks
- New traffic signals installed at the intersection of Swanson and Snyder, replacing the existing four-way stop
- Sidewalk level two-way bike facility from Oregon to Snyder
- Sidewalk level shared-use path from Snyder to Mifflin
Timeline:
- Planning: Complete

- Construction: Projected to begin in 2027
- Complete: To be determined
